King Henry von Doxie is an elderly guy, at least 14 years of age, that came into rescue, from a Shelter, after being picked up as a Stray.  He is extremely under weight, had an eye infection and was covered in ticks. One eye has a cataract.  He looks to have lived a rough life, and from his behavior and the calluses' on his elbows and knees, has probably lived a lot of his life  outside, on cement. His red coat is really rough from lack of attention and good food. The Vets say, that for being in such an elderly guy and having had a rough time, he is in fairly good condition.  He is heartworm positive, but that is going to be treated with once a month medication.  Now that he is in rescue, he is tick free, is taking medication for his eye infection and to treat a dry eye, and is getting regular, nutritious meals. He loves to roll around on his back in the grass and on the carpet in his foster home. King Henry has "appropriated" a number of blankets and towels and piled them up to sleep on and from which to survey his Kingdom!  He is a perky, active little guy and loves to go for walks, and to chase the lady furpups  around in his Kingdom!  King Henry can be found following his Foster Mom's every step and when she sits down, he is asking to for some love and attention.  King Henry is an alpha personality and can be demanding and stubborn, which are the typical traits of a Dachshund. He objects to being placed in a crate.  He sometimes chooses to go into a crate to rest but it must be his decision, or he barks until released. King Henry is a red, short coated Doxie, that weighs in at around 11.5 pounds., and is extremely underweight.  The Doctors feel the weight issue comes from a lack of access to food, not from a medical issue.  When he gets back to his normal, average weight, he should weigh in at around 15-16 pounds, maybe a little more. He will probably be a small standard in size. King Henry loves to be petted on his head, and to have his chin and tummy rubbed. He is very interested in the things around him and loves to explore the outside areas. He likes to chew and destroys stuffed animals that have been given to him to destroy, but has not bothered anything else in the house.....except for the blankets!  He likes to pull blankets off the bed and drag them to his pile for him to lay on! He is very food motivated and loves to get treats!  He is a happy fellow and his tail is always wagging. He is not much of a barker, unless he is confined and wants to get out!  He loves to get out and explore and he loves to cuddle up and snuggle. King Henry von Doxie is a royal, majestic little guy that wants little in life.  Some good food, a soft bed and a gentle hand to love on him are all that he is looking for.  Do you have room in your heart and life, for a Senior little man, that just wants to be loved the last few years of his life?
