BabyCakes
1996-2011
Baby "Cakes" came to CTDR in June of 2008 after being dumped at a Shelter, unloved and unwanted because she had fleas! She lived in a backyard her entire 12 years and had permanently scarred ears from being continually sun-burned. She came to live with me and quickly became the leader of the Johnson pack! Everyone in the Johnson pack wears a ID Tag, proclaiming to the world, "I AM LOVED" with my phone number, should they ever get "misplaced". BabyCakes, quickly learned that by repeatedly pawing at this tag and making her tags jingle, Mom came running to see what was going on and she got lots of love and attention! Within her first week, after learning how to cross the threshold, that carpet was pretty cool to walk and lay on, she claimed "HER" spot in the Big Bed - in the middle, right next to Mom, with her body under the blankie and her head on my pillow. If another pup happen to be laying there, she would nudge them out of the way, and if they refused to move, she showed her pretty teeth and backed them up with a quiet growl! The other pups learned that since BabyCakes asked so "nicely", it was best if they just scooted over some and gave her, THE spot!
Shortly after joining the pack, she was discovered to have both a mammary cancer and Cushing's Disease. The Cancer was removed, but sadly the Cushing's ravage on. It relentlessly attacked her mind and body. Yesterday, while wrapped in a warm, fleece blanket, lying on my chest, listening to my heartbeat, BabyCakes, closed her eyes, went to sleep and quietly crossed the Rainbow Bridge. She crossed the Bridge knowing, that at least for these past 2.5 years, that she, Little Miss BabyCakes, was wanted, valued, and Most importantly -LOVED!

To BabyCakes,
Rest easy my little one, you have earned your rest! Look for and find, Red Dog, Mr. Murphy, Kendall and the rest who arrived before you, they will show you the ropes. I want you to run, play, be happy and healthy, wag that tail again, and enjoy your time. My heart is broken with not having you here with me and I am missing you so much! But in time, Princess Erin, Sweetie and I will join you and you can snore in my ear once more.... Until then, Little One, Know that Mommy loves you ..Always has...Always will!
