Gunter has quite a story to tell. He is missing the foot on his back left leg, so he just has the little straight leg that hangs down. Apparently his family was working on a car, and there was some sort of "incident." We shutter to think just what happened, and quite frankly we don't want to know the details. Then, to top it off, his family decided that they just really didn't want him or his chihuahua companion anymore, so they literally put them out in the street! Thankfully a neighbor stepped in and brought them to the safety of the city shelter.
Gunter's real name is "Little Wienie." Well, we decided that this guy deserved a NEW NAME and NEW LIFE, so he is now with CTDR! His leg has been completely evaluated, and he has no infection or permanent damage. Since he uses it for balance and has developed a callous on the bottom, the vet feels that he will do better with his leg than without. He is heartworm positive. No surprise there given his complete lack of care in his previous life, and will need to go through treatment.

But the good news is that this little mini is THE MOST PRECIOUS, sweetest guy you could ever meet! The callousness of his previous owners did not rub off on him - instead he just loves everyone. He gets along great with other dogs and just all around has a great disposition! He is only about 2-3 years old and has so much to give in his new life. We know that there must be people out there who are willing to give Gunter this NEW LIFE that he deserves so much.
UPDATE
I may have only three complete legs, but that sure isn't holding me back! I've been working out since coming to my foster home, and my foster mom says I run faster than any of the four-legged ones can! I'm getting along well with my foster siblings and love to play with them as much as possible. I also really like having my own lap to claim for quiet time and especially like to sleep in the big bed at night. Cuddling up is a good way to snooze away the hours.
I have learned that I can go to the door and ask to go potty, and am doing well with my housetraining. Cats are an interesting toy to me and I do like to chase them around. A home without cats would probably be best for me. My health is improving, and my coat is getting very shiny. Getting rid of those nasty heartworms is next on the agenda. After that I'll be ready to find a real home to call my own! I may be just a small guy in size, but I have a huge heart. There's plenty of room in there for someone just like you!
