Update from Kenny - February
My foster mom said that we were having a party (what's a party?) to celebrate my first birthday. I'm not sure what a birthday is, either, but I know that I got peanut butter cookies (my favorite!), two new chewy toys that squeak, and a new leash, all on the same day. I also started getting a new food that is so yummy! Foster mom says it's for grown-up doggies.
We have so much fun - Apple, my foster mom and me. I've gotten so good at walks with my foster family. I carry my leash to the door when I want to go to the park. If I don't carry my leash to the door, my foster mom doesn't get it – I want to go to the park! Come on – let's go! In the park, I love to watch the big things in the sky over me (they are called planes and birds).
My foster mom looks at this thing called a "laptop." It's fun to chase the things around that I see moving on it. While she's looking at it, I cuddle up beside her and snooze until she's done. Then we get up and go outside and - best of all- we get a snack!
I sure am tired at the end of the day. Being me takes a lot of energy! I get to sleep under the covers and snuggle with my foster mom and Apple. I'm a really good boy and don't get up from where we fall asleep until we wake up. My foster mom tells her friends what a sweet and smart boy I'm growing up to be. She says that when my forever family takes me home, they are going to love me so much! I can't wait to meet my new friends and family – hope to meet you soon!
Update from Kenny - October
Hi there - I'm Kenny. I'm six months old and I live with my foster mom and Apple, my best friend who looks just like me. I really love my foster home, but I'm ready for my new forever home with my new humans.
My days fly by... I'm busy with my Kong toys, cookies, wagging my tail and playing with Apple every minute that we're not sleeping. I like the poultry flavored toothpaste in the morning before my foster mom leaves for the day. It's so yummy that I don't even mind the toothbrush. I don't mind getting in my crate - I stay in my crate when foster mom is gone, chewing on my Kong toys and sleeping.
I like it when I get treats for doing things that make my humans happy. I sit, lay down and roll over and I get treats for it. It's really easy - they think I'm doing something so difficult! When my foster mom is washing dishes, I rest for a while and lie by her feet. She likes that! When I have to go potty, I go and wait at the door until my foster mom lets me outside. I know I'm not supposed to go in the house. I love to play fetch, too, especially with the plush squeaky ball that I have. I bring it right back to my foster mom so she can throw it again. I could do that for hours! At first, I didn't know what a leash was - what the heck was that thing, anyway? Now I am a pro and slip my harness on easy! Sometimes I get into trouble because I chew the wrong thing, but my foster mom just gives me a Kong toy and I forget about what I wasn't supposed to chew on. (Well, I am only six months old, right?)
My favorite store is Pet Supplies Plus. Fun people reach down and pet me and I give them kisses. They seem to like that. I don't know what the humans at the store mean when they say how cute my big puppy feet are; I just walk and romp on them!
I'm really smart and confident and know that I am the pup for you! We can have so much fun together working on my puppy skills like stay, come, and "take a bow." We'll be BFFs!
September
Kenny is sunshine in every day. He wakes us up every day with a big kiss, and all day long he is just non-stop entertainment. He is my dog Apple's BFF, and if she is out of sight, he must find her. His world is all about wiggles, kisses, cookies and Kong toys.
Kenny is a very intelligent, well-behaved boy. He house-trained very easily, and started waiting by the door almost immediately after learning he shouldn't go in the house. He learned "down" in about 20 minutes, and "sit" is coming along nicely. I have seen him behave a little aggressively with "other" dogs not in his pack; however, has never exhibited any aggressiveness with my dog. He respects me as the pack leader and looks to his human for what to do next.
He has had car-sickness twice, but has also ridden twice without being sick. He does bark at car doors, certain sounds on the TV, or neighbor dogs that bark first. He crates easily. He "holds it" for 8 hours while I'm at work. He tends to chew on pillows, throw rugs, and anything else that happens to catch his attention, but this is where good puppy parenting comes in, and these items just need to be replaced with Kong toys, and he is immediately redirected to appropriate chewing. I feel like Kenny will be happier with a BFF, not as an only dog.
