If you are looking for a dog that will turn himself inside out when you come into the door, Cork is that dog. His photo is next to the definition of "loyal canine companion."

Not much is known about Cork except that he was found wandering on New Year's Eve, hence the name. What is known is that he was well-cared for judging by his beautiful black and tan coat and his athletic and trim physique. He was also heartworm negative and had already been neutered.

He bonded instantly with his foster Dad and showed great separation anxiety when Dad would leave for work in the morning. This lasted only for a few days, until Cork quickly figured out that the bed sure was nice and warm on a cold and dark winter's morning. It is obvious that someone at some time loved this little guy and that he loved them.

Cork wants to be where you are, the closer the better. By your side: Good; in your lap: Even Better. A gentle touch works best with him as he is a bit skittish at sudden movements. He responds beautifully and enthusiastically to a word of praise and a soothing tone with a happy wag of his tail. He wants to be loved as much as you want to love him, maybe more.

He is submissive in nature and so has adapted well with his foster family's dachshund pack. No exposure to cats or kids but we would expect that he would certainly adapt to children well if they were mindful in how they approached him. He's just a very healthy and loving little dog who will grow into a beautiful adult (he's very young, maybe 1 or 2 years old). A little gentleman, he is very well-mannered and fit into the potty routine almost immediately.

The most touching things about Cork are his expressive brown eyes and the fact that he gives a little hop when you pick him up. He will hop his way into your heart if you open it just wide enough.
