Baby - her Foster Mom calls her Baby Cakes - came to us with her buddy in June of 2008 after spending her entire life in the backyard of her home. Her family dumped them at a kill shelter when they found fleas on them! When we got her she didn't know how to be an "inside dog." She was hesitant to walk over a threshold or walk on carpet. She hadn't been socialized much and didn't know how to respond to a kind hand petting her. But time and patience has brought her around.
Baby Cakes doesn't have her third eyelids, so she can't completely close her eyes. This means that she suffers from dry eye, plus she is losing her sight because of her age. A routine check-up in March found a small mass on one of her mammary glands. Since she also needed a dental, the decision was made to remove the lump at the same time and send it off for analysis. Pre-op blood work found that her liver was severely compromised, and the results on the tumor came back cancerous. The decision was made to make Baby Cakes a Hospice Care dog to ensure the she be given all the care that she needed for the rest of her life.

So the plan is to keep Baby Cakes as comfortable as possible. This includes a warm/cool house, a warm, fuzzy bed to sleep in, great food, and most importantly, all the love that she can handle! She has decided she likes living indoors, and will go outside, do her business and hustle right back inside the house! She prefers to lie quietly in someone's lap but still isn't too sure about the petting or giving kisses! On her good days, she will chase her ball and bring it back until she tires out. But mostly she just lies in the sun shining through the window. Baby Cakes has lived her entire life, in a situation where no one cared. Now she will live out her life in comfort and being loved! What more could she ask for?
