It seems like CTDR has been taking in more older dogs lately. Some have been adoption returns from years ago. Others found themselves at area shelters. Often, these dogs are healthy and still active, but their grey faces and ages mean many pass them up.
Many CTDR members will tell you of the special places that senior dogs hold in their hearts. They are easy to live with, asking little but giving so much love in return. It is, of course, true that our time with them is shorter, but that just makes it seem even more valuable. But let's not forget that many, many dachshunds live WELL into their teens, and the most recent holder of the World's Oldest Dog title was a dachshund mix!

CTDR's Senior Sweethearts are our dogs 9 or older. Their adoption fee has been reduced to $150 in hopes of finding them true forever homes. Often, a senior might need more preventive care than a younger dog, such as a joint supplement or yearly bloodwork, so we reduced the fee for this reason, not to discount their value, as truly, these dogs are priceless!
