Frieda

My husband and I have received the greatest gift in Freida. She is truly a precious and perfect dog for us. She is loving, friendly, loves to snuggle and gives lots of doggy kisses. I can not imagine how anyone could mistreat or abandon this adorable dog. The highlight of my work day is to get home and be greeted by such a loving dog. She is truly a "peach" and I couldn't imagine my life without her. We have nicknamed her "Freezy;" we only call her Freida when we are trying to get her attention. You have such a good organization that I will adopt again when I need another furry friend.

Blossom (fka Frankie)

Blossom

Frankie was adopted by my parents, Nelda and Lourie Hancock on 10-19-07. Her name has been changed to Blossom. Blossom has been a joy and is loved beyond measure. She was adopted as an only dog, but now has a sister, Clover, a dachshund who was adopted from a shelter. These sweet girls are crazy about each other and provide endless entertainment with their shenanigans, as we like to refer to their playful antics. I could swear that my parents have gotten 10 years younger since being blessed with Blossom and Clover.

Blossom is sweet, smart, loving, energetic, a bit stubborn, and independent – and she is loved for all of these attributes. She loves to play more than anything – with her sister, her people, or even herself. Her red ball is her favorite toy and she is a pro at playing fetch.

When the weather is warm, Blossom enjoys going out in the backyard with my father in the early mornings to water the plants and play in the water (yes, she really likes water!). My Dad loves spending this one-on-one time with her. She is like a light switch – she wakes up immediately eager to go, plays and romps until she is spent, then lies down and goes out like a light! My mother especially enjoys how Blossom checks-in with her throughout the day, stopping her play momentarily to run over to say hello and give a quick kiss. When more than a few days go by without my being able to visit my parents, I miss Blossom terribly. Every once in a while, I will spend the night and am thrilled that she always insists on sleeping with me!

Blossom has been successfully potty trained and we are now working on her leash-walking manners.

Thank you from my parents and myself to Blossom's adoption counselor, her foster family, and everyone else involved with the CTDR and the wonderful work that you are all doing rescuing the precious dachshunds and finding them loving homes.

Sanford

I want to take the time to tell you what a wonderful little guy we adopted from the rescue. We adopted Sanford about a year and 6 months ago.

He has been a wonderful addition to us and our family. His evaluation was right on and is so sweet with the grandbabies. Since Sanford's adoption we have been blessed with a second doxie no longer wanted by his family.

Over many years we always had owned large breed dogs from 80 lbs up. I wouldn't trade one minute of this precious breed for any of my past dogs!!!!

Again,

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

Jenny and Abby

Jenny and Abby and their siblings

Here is both Abby (far right hand side) and Jenny (far left hand side). We adopted Abby sometime in March 2007 and my in-laws adopted Jenny a few months ago. All the dachshunds get along well with one another (the other three are Belle, Trudy and Max). They are all such a bundle of love, and of course, they all want in your lap as soon as you sit down.

Thank you so much for the good work you all do! Both Abby and Jenny and so precious and loveable, we don't know what we would do without them!

Reggie

Reggie fka Regis in front w/ his sister

We adopted Regis last November, and after a bumpy few weeks, we got him settled into his new home, and playing with his big sister. We now call him Reggie; or Reginald if we're being formal. He is SO FULL of energy and affection, and just like his mom, he loves shoes!! When Reggie first got here, he was super skinny, totally wild, had no control, bladder or otherwise, and would tear up anything he could get at. Now, he sits fairly patiently for his food bowl, he's a master at the sit command, and he is completely pottytrained. Very vocal, he is the boss of the neighborhood, and let's everyone know that he's in command. We are about to start a 2nd level of obedience training for Reggie and his sister, hopefully that will teach them to calm down a bit, they are both really wild when they meet other dogs. One step at a time, right?

So, Reggie is very much at home here in Dallas, he and his sister play fetch with all sorts of toys, they wrestle around the house, snuggle with anyone who is available, camping out in their heated day bed; and at the end of the day, they burrow down together in a huge dog bed at the foot of our bed. I'm so glad we found Reggie, and can't imagine life without him; he's just a gorgeous little guy, and as sweet, snuggly and fun as he can be. I can't imagine why anyone would let such a precious dog go, but we're so happy to have him with us!!

Mojo

Mojo

Mojo...what can I say? He is amazing. My husband, Ben, and I adopted Mojo at the first of this year. He has been a blessing to our family. The little guy loves to play with his sqeeky toys and pal around with our other mini doxie, Max. Max is an old man..he is 19 years old and still very healthy. Mojo is always there when I come home from work...waiting to make me forget my hard day. He loves scrambled eggs but he does not get that very often. He is very much my dog. He loves my husband and my children but he is attached to me every moment I spend at home (I affectionally call him Lump). Oh, He is some what of a celebrity at the local Starbucks...everyone knows his name and spoils him rotten with treats. He also loves to have his picture taken (see his picture here, he was posing for this one.) One other quirk he has..he smiles like a human...baring his teeth but not in malice just happiness. If I can get a picture of that I will post it!!

I would adopt every pup on CTDR if I could. CTDR is a blessing for all the little doxies that need a home. They do GREAT things and I will adopt from them again in the future. More on Mojo in the future!!!

Rocco

Rocco

Rocco came to live with my husband Adam and me last May 2007 and he has been a "daddy's" boy every since. When my husband comes home in the evening after work, I hear him pull up and say to both the "boys," Where's Big Daddy? And they go running out the door and straight into the arms of Adam!

Rocco and "Soda Pop" my standard 8 year old bonded after about a week and are fast buddies now. When Soda was sick recently and had to be crated most of the day for 2 weeks, Rocco was so sweet, he would go lay next to the crate in his bed, so he could be near Soda. Now, Soda is back to normal and they are once again "buddies."

My husband left for Iraq on October 1, 2007, and will not return home until January 2008, so Rocco misses him very much, but I know Adam is not far from his thoughts. I will call out "Big Daddy" said to tell you "hello Rocco" and his ears perk up and he looks around... just waiting and hoping... just like me.

Adam was recently home for R&R and both the "boys" were very happy.

We are so happy to have Rocco and can't wait to buy a new home and get a nice big yard, so we can get a couple of more of these wonderful animals!

Ms. Foxy

Abby Lynn, Ms. Foxy and Penny Lane

I just wanted to let everyone know that Ms. Foxy is doing great. She has two sisters, Abby Lynn and Penny Lane. She is enjoying life here at home with us. Abby Lynn and Penny Lane dote on her all the time. And I think that they think Ms. Foxy is their mommy. Ms. Foxy is a gem of a beauty. She is loving life to the fullest. Thank you all for such a beauty.

I just wanted to keep in touch and also, thank you from the bottom of my heart for all the wonderful work that you do. I can not thank you enough.

Barney

Barney

This letter is to encourage someone who might be considering adopting an older dog. Yes, your time together might be shorter, but it will be very rewarding and the seniors seem to appreciate having a new home so much. It is just hard to explain, but it seems as if they know they have been given a second chance at a loving home. Please don't be afraid to try an older dog.

I want to tell about one of our senior CTDR dogs, Barney. What a joy he was and so much FUN!!! After our first adopted dog, Teddy, passed away, Rena Bonem, foster mom to both said "I have another dog for you." Barney had been given up by his previous owner and had been in Rena's wonderful care for several months. He was a silver dapple with one black ear and one dappled ear and with a personality like no other! He was 13 years old when he came to live with us, but acted like a 2 year old. When we met Rena to pick him up, he rode home in my husband, Gene's, lap and licked his face all the way home. He joined our other 5 doxies and l dalmation and kept us entertained for two years.

Barney was very verbal - he talked about everything and loved to play with us, especially Gene. Gene would wrestle with him and Barney would growl and make all kinds of noise, but it was in fun because he didn't have a mean bone in his speckled body. He woke up happy and talking and went to bed happy. He loved to sleep on Gene's arm or by my side when Gene was out of town.

Now one of our other doxies, Rimshot, is diabetic and his vision has been impaired by cataracts, but he thinks he is top dog and Barney thought he was too. Every morning and every night while I was fixing their food, Barney would bark and bark and herd Rimmy down the hallway to the bathroom where Rimmy eats - then run back down the hallway and bark some more. This was a daily ritual. Then when they went outside, Rimmy would hurry back in and stand at the doggie door to keep Barney out. Every once in a while they would have a serious argument, mostly noise, but it was an ongoing game.

Barney loved to sit in my lap and I would hold him on his back and he would look at me with such love and affection. He loved to lick your face especially behind your ear until he would make you laugh. I called him the Steve Martin of the doxie world - A wild and crazy guy.

Barney passed away October 26 very suddenly after a one day illness. Our hearts are absolutely broken and Rimmy is wandering around looking for him. What a huge void he has left, but my reason for this letter is again to let people know about adopting an older dog. Barney was passed by evidently because of his age. How lucky we were that Rena had him and sent him to us. It is very painful right now, but we wouldn't have missed having him for the world. No one knows what they are missing out on with an adopted older dog. Please don't forget them, they need a forever home too!

Emmy

Emmy pins Shelby during playtime.

Hello, my husband and I adopted Emmy awhile back, and I just wanted to thank everyone who made it possible. Emmy is the sweetest little thing, and she makes an excellent big sis to our other doxie Shelby even though Emmy is a little bit younger than Shelby. She is a wonderful dog and we only wish we could have found her when she was a pup so we could have protected her from all the bad things out there. She is still very timid around people, but not around dogs. She is a social butterfly! Shelby and Emmy are partners in crime, they get each other in trouble. Shelby is so small she cannot jump on the couch but Emmy can, so Emmy will get stuff down for Shelby! They play constantly, but when it's bed time they run straight for the bed and snuggle up with each other. Anyways I just really wanted to thank everyone and let them know that Emmy is doing great!

Maverick
a.k.a. Fievel

Maverick sits with his sister Sienna May.

Hi! I just wanted to express how delighted we are to have Maverick (a.k.a. Fievel) in our home. He has gotten along great with the other dogs as well as the visiting family's dogs. He spent his first week at home during the Thanksgiving holiday with relatives and their dogs. He had a great time! He stole the hearts of everyone who came to visit. Maverick has bonded very well with his doxie sister Sienna May. She makes him chase her all over the house and back yard. She is quite fast and he is not quite able to keep up with her....he'll just run behind her barking and whining for her to slow down. They play well together and gladly share the toys. She absolutely loves her new brother and playmate and he adores her. I've attached a few pictures of them. Sienna is the little one with the sweater. These pictures were taken only a few days after being at home. He adjusted very fast! We are very glad to have provided a good home to him. Thanks for all you do!

Hank

Dear Peggy,

This is Hank. I want to thank you for letting me stay at your house until you found me my new home with my two new daddies. I really like my two dads. They take good care of me and they love to play as much as I do and they take me on really long walks.

They can be strict, though. They don't give me some of the yummy stuff that they get to eat from the stove or the big cold machine where they put their people food. But, they do feed me good stuff and I'm not as chubby as I used to be and I don't get tired like I used to with all the exercise I get. So I guess it all works out.

I have all the toys I could ever want and they buy me whatever squeekie I want when we go to the store. I have so many squeekies I can't keep track of all them and where I put them. Sometimes I forget that I put them behind the couch.

Daddy Jim is especially good to me. I sleep with him all night and we wake up in the morning to go for a nice walk and then we watch some TV. He rubs my belly all the time and I just fall asleep because I'm so safe and happy.

Thank you, Peggy for helping me find my new home with Daddy Hector and Daddy Jim.

Love,
Hank!

Regards,
Hector Adame

Hogan
(a.k.a. Dandy)

Hogan and his new brother Oskar.

Hey CTDR, Just wanted to let you know how wonderful our new addition as been. I adopted Hogan, a.k.a. Dandy, back in March of 2005. He has been such a joy and blessing to me. He truly completed our little family. He has a brother Oskar. They run and play and wrestle until I think I might go crazy but they love it! I am so thankful for all that you guys to do for these sweet babies. Every chance I get, I tell people about CTDR and that if they are wanting a dachshund to check you guys out. It is such a wonderful organization. Hogan wanted me to let you know how happy he is here, but that he will never forget the nice people back at CTDR. Thanks again.

Love,
Lindsey, Hogan, and Oskar Whitten

Betsy and Olive

We adopted Betsy and Olive one week ago and have no regrets. At first I was worried that taking on two new dogs would put a lot of stress on my other dogs, but everyone has been doing fine with the arrangement. We kept their names since they have already been through a lot of changes. Both of them sleep in my daughter's room and I believe they have taken her room as their kingdom. Nobody is allowed to enter unless approved by them. They are fine with kids and cats too. Betsy is the one that has come out of her shell and will spend time with other people too; as long as you give her the attention she is fine. Olive, on the other hand, is more cautious and she will defend her kingdom, in this case my daughter's bed, against anyone.

Wherever my daughter goes you will find Betsy and Olive. I keep joking about it because it kind of reminds me of "West Side Story." I have the big dogs following me and my daughter has the little ones. Here is a picture that shows Betsy not so interested in the new technology and Olive sitting guard.

Brutus and Pepper

Brutus and Pepper and their new family.

Brutus and Pepper have settled right in. They quickly trained me to take them on dinnertime walks. Or should I say, they like to take me for a drag. The Countess (Pepper) does not like the wet grass in the morning, but we are making progress on this. The Brute needs to learn not to lick everything in sight, including his girlfriend. And he could use a mint! Pepper Pupper knows how to put him in his place, though, with a well-timed growl. Maybe I should try that myself! They slept in their crate for the first week or so, but then I broke down (since they have to spend much of the day in their crate) and now I have two "squirmy worms" cuddled up to me every night.

Stanley

Hi everyone! We wanted to give you an update on Stanley. We're happy to announce he is adjusting well and loving his new home and sister, Millie. Stanley is a huge ball of energy, very much the puppy even though he's older. He loves his stuffed toys, chewing on Nylabones and looking out of windows and woofing at passersby. He's very smart and has already learned a few commands.

Last week he met his grandparents and they feel in love with his big brown eyes and floppy ears. There were lots of oohs and aahs. He's visited his vet and they met this past week also. The girls in the office fell instantly in love. They were amazed at his beautiful red coat. This past weekend he made his first car trip to see his god mother Tricia and her family. He got along great with her doxie, Jack and their Eskie, Kelsey-Marie. He's not too sure around children or wheels yet but we'll work on that.

He'll be attending private dog obedience training soon to work on a few behaviors. We're looking forward to the one on one time with a trainer. Stanley loves us TONS and if you have a free lap, he's in it and loving on you. He's a super, super sweet boy and we couldn't be happier with adopting Stanley. He wanted me to tell Kathy that he misses her and is very grateful for the good care she gave him.

Thanks Margie, Chris and Kathy, we're grateful also,
Roman, Kristin, Millie and Stanley

Rex and Dillon

Dillon as Elvis-dog and Rex as Rex-Mex.

It has been one year today (June 19, 2005) since Rex and Dillon have moved to New Orleans to join our family. We're going to celebrate with some peanut butter and yogurt bones and a walk around Audubon Park. Rex and Dill have been an amazing edition to our lives. Being first-time dog owners, the boys have taught us so many lessons, the most important of which is patience. About five months ago, Rex started having seizures. Slowly, we have been going through a process of tests, eliminating possible causes, and it looks like epilepsy. At first I was terrified, unsure, and even had doubts about whether I could be a good enough dog owner to him. But, when I look at him and Dillon when they are playing chase around the dinner table, napping on their pillow by the window, or licking on Kongs side by side, I know we can do it. Caring for them is too easy and it's worth any struggle, because at the end of the day, I'm the lucky one.

In the last year the boys graduated from "basic" obedience school and attended their first "dog socials" in New Orleans, one being their first Mardi Gras parade. The Mystic Krewe of Barkus rolls every year in downtown New Orleans. This year the boys went as Rex-Mex and Elvis-dog. They had a great time and we enjoyed it more than ever, introducing our well-trained pups to the local dogs. Dillon's life revolves around protecting his beloved bones from Rex, who would much rather just be on the couch under a blanket or stretched out on the rug, rolling around on his belly. They are hilarious to watch — chasing and playing and then so adorable when they curl up to nap in the sun.

Thanks a million to Chris and Catherine, who made the transition so easy on all four of us! It's really wonderful that I can still contact their foster mom (Chris) with questions and comments about the boys — I'm filled with gratitude.

All of our Best,
Danielle, Mark, Dillon, and Rex

Henry
(a.k.a. Winston)

Happy 10th Birthday, Henry!

Henry, FKA Winston, turned 10 this May but he's only been with us five short months. The amazing thing about it is, I love Henry like he's been with me for 10 years and there's no shortage of love coming from him either! His favorite pastime: charging up the ramp to the bed and burrowing in the comforter.

Thank you for the work that you do.

Sincerely,
Margaret Yackey

Coco
(a.k.a. Cocoa)

Coco and her new sister Isabela are best buds.

Dear CTDR, I just wanted to let you know that Coco (formerly Cocoa) is doing very well and might be one of the most spoiled dogs ever! She loves her big sister, Alice, and fellow doxie, Isabela, and she prefers sitting in her mom's or dad's lap above all other activities. We are so happy that we could bring Coco into our home nine months ago - we can't imagine life without her! She has turned dinner time into a real event with her dancing, which Isabela has picked up as well. Actually, everything is an event with Coco because she gets so excited and likes to tell everyone just how excited she is! I've included some pictures of Coco with her sisters - you can see that they are best buds. Thank you so much for taking care of Coco before she came to live with us, and thank you for the wonderful work you do on behalf of dachshunds.

Sincerely,
Dana Lawrence

Frieda

Frieda discovers a quail pen.

Frieda came to us scared and very attached to her foster family. The first night we were together a big hail storm almost blew out the windows which didn't help calm things down! After much love, attention, and constantly telling her she'll never have to move again, she's become the love dog she was meant to be. She's even made friends with the neighborhood dogs (no small feat since our 9 lb dachshund thinks she's a 90 lb dachshund!). No matter what kind of day we've had we always find a smile for our little girl - how can you not when the tail wags just for you and she's so excited to see you that she gives a happy dance? Thank you CTDR for finding us the perfect dog for our family!

Lori

Princess Leia

Dear Joyce, Princess is thriving and growing here, the little sweater is allready to small. We all love her and constantly give her attention. She's never alone. I can't walk her as she insists on running and she can run like the wind, jump like grasshopper and climb like a monkey. She is the most athletic dog that i have ever seen and she is quite bright. She easily learned to use the piddle pads. The running is getting me quite fit. Look for us on tv on Boston Marathon day. Just joking. She's an awesome dog. I am curious as to what her life was with her first family because she can do so many physical things I wonder if she was left to care for herself alot. She's a definate keeper.

Thanks again,
Dick

Beemer

Beemer guarding the kids.

I have attached some pictures of Beemer. He's just a good dog. We love him so much. Soon enough we will be getting him a little sister or brother and I know he will love that. Beemer has been doing really well, he only spends time in his crate during the day while I am at work. I can't say enough how much we love him. The kids just adore him.

He thinks he's the man of the house now too, he is very observant as to who is walking around our house and makes it known it's not alright. Can't say enough on how special this little guy is.

Thanks and hope all things are going well with the rescue.

Sincerely,
Michelle Ricks

Lexie
(a.k.a. Daisy)

Hi Margie:
I have been meaning to call you but I have been so busy at work I didn’t have a moment to sit down and think. Anyway your little girl is doing great. She is learning to do her business out side. She is up early (6AM) and goes out. She sits with me in the bathroom as I do my hair and makeup. She goes out again and I drop her off at my girlfriend’s house on my way to the train. She has Casey to play with all day and she is really learning. She is plays at night; always running into her bed, rolling around, and she runs out of the kitchen and tries to run up the stairs to my bedroom every minute. She knows I don’t want her up there by herself, just so she doesn’t have an accident yet. She is just adorable. She is getting use to the cold in the morning, but she does hate it. She runs outs does her thing and runs back into the kitchen. She is absolutely a pleasure. I take her in the car with me and into the store. She loves to jump in my gym bag or the laundry basket!!! I am taking pictures and I promise I will send you some. I think of you all the time and want you to know how happy I am to have Lexie. She is an inspiration when I think about her being left and traveling all the way to NY. She is truly being loved and cared for here and has lots of new adults who want to take her everywhere! I will keep in touch with you and I know you are in Lexie’s heart.

Very truly yours,
Jennifer

Annie

Annie is very photogenic or maybe we just get carried away! She sleeps in bed with us and insists on being tucked in - under the blanket. She's adjusting quite well and has claimed both the house & yard as hers. Sunday we went to PetsMart for a new harness for when she's out. We ended up with much more than just a bitty harness. Imagine that! She definitely prefers smaller toys & likes her duck in particular.

We've got her Wellness & Wellness snacks. Tonight we're taking her stitches out and tomorrow is a trip to the vet.

Thanks for thinking of us for Annie. We've changed her name to Sugar Annie because you just won't find one sweeter than she is, but, of course, we still call her Annie. She DEFINITELY has a forever home! I promise not to send so many pics in the future!

Gulliver
(a.k.a. Blue)
and
Otto

Lisa, Otto, and Gulliver

Hi,

I adopted Blue (now known as Gulliver) in December, and my life has not been the same, I can happily say. But he was a lonely little fellow, so I (one short week later) decided he (and I) needed a companion. That is where Otto came into the picture. The little black-and-tan sweetheart has also warmed my heart. They sleep in my bed and they wait for me to come home at night. It is wonderful to be loved so much. I asked them the other night if they ealized how lucky they are, but the reality is that I am the one who is lucky.

Both these boys came from less-than-ideal situations, but it's easy street from here on out. I couldn't ask for a better organization to work with than the Central Texas Dachsund Rescue Society. They are helpful, encouraging and take wonderful care of the babies until they find them permanent homes. I try to give them a donation from time to time to help out. Even if you can't take one (or more) of these wonderful companions into your home, please find it in your heart to help by sending a donation. After losing my two dachsies one a year over the last two years, I thought I could never find any as loving as they were. But I was wrong. These two are. Guess it must just be the breed!

Dachsunds are like potato chips: no one can have just one!

Oscar

Oscar and Sissy

Just wanted to report on Oscar. I adopted him about three years ago, and as you can tell, he walks with wheels. Yes, it has been difficult at times, but well worth it. This handsome fellow will never walk on all fours again, but he is not daunted at all. He has grayed some in the last couple of years, but he is going strong, happy and healthy, and a little in love, as you can tell from the photo. By the way, that is Sissy, formerly Natasha, and she, too, came from the rescue. I have another doxie baby, Harley, a handsome fellow of 8...don't tell Oscar, but Sissy kind of loves Harley too...lol. Everyday is an adventure with these characters. I wouldn't change a thing...PLEASE consider adopting a handicap dog. They do require a little more time and effort, but the lessons you will learn are invaluable.

Addie
(a.k.a. Boo)

Dear Central Texas Dachshund Rescue:

We recently adopted Addie (formerly known as Boo). She is the black long haired dachshund in the picture. What a great addition she made to our family. We have a Min Pin and two long haired dachshunds as well. We were a bit nervous when we first brought her home as she barked continously and licked her crate til she made her self soaking wet. She was so afraid of everything but after a few hours with her new sisters and her brother she has adjusted so well. The other dogs showed her the do's and don'ts and they have all become the best of friends. She has truly melted our hearts. Addie is the most playful little girl and always wants to cover you up with kisses. How we wish she could tell us her story. We know that she was dropped off at the shelter because her former owners were getting a divorce and could not keep her. We seem to think she was also crated for most of the day and that the family might have had children who poked fun at her while she was crated as she is afraid when we have to crate her for any reason other than bedtime. If she is crated she will lick the crate almost non-stop. We also think her former owners were trying to starve her as well as she was pretty bony when we got her. However she is starting to fill out and has put on a little weight.

Margie, we thank you ever so much for allowing us to have this little girl. My heart had been broken since April of 2004 when I had to put my LUV to sleep (another long haired dachshund). LUV was 18 years old and we had been looking for another dachshund since that time. We thank all of the voluteers of Central Texas Dachshund Rescue for rescuing these sweet babies and we encourage anyone looking for a dog to please visit the CTDR website. These dogs make such good pets and also wonderful family members. Some of them have very sad stories but they are all looking for good homes. Even if you can't take a dog right now you might consider making a donation to CTDR to help defray the mounting medical expenses incurred on these dogs.

Again, we thank you all so very much for the wonderful work you do.

Sincerely,
Teresa and Richard Rucka

PS: Reese's, HANS, Kendall Jackson and Addie Tude thanks you as well.

Otto
(a.k.a. Java)

Just wanted to thank you for taking care of our 'baby' until we found him! We adopted 'Java' (we have renamed him Otto) on 12/24/04 and he has already stolen our hearts. Thank you for your efforts to save these little guys!

Sue Ellen and Matt Crossfield

Captain

This is Captain's first Christmas with us. We even got him a stocking with his name stitched on it!

This is Captain! We adopted him last April after he had been found wandering near a shopping center in Austin. He has brought nothing but joy to our family! His best friend is my 9 year old daughter, Alexa, who loves all kinds of dogs (she even decorated her room in a dog theme!). Captain was a little thin when we got him, but he's just right now!

Captain loves going for long walks to the park. We sometimes take our neighbor's dachshund, Reggie along with us. Captain's favorite thing to do is get small stuffed animals out of Alexa's room and string them around the house. He has a lot of energy and plays non-stop with Alexa and our 12 year-old son, Austin.

Captain has a hard time deciding which bed to sleep in at night, but usually ends up in our bed. He is very good with people, but he has one peculiar habit. He goes in the car with me and the kids to school every day and whenever we leave the window down, he barks and snarles at anyone who walks toward the car. This is the only time he ever shows aggression. I wonder if he had some sort of trama involving someone walking up to a car.

We dogsit for our other neighbor's doxies, Hanna and Riley whenever their owners are out of town. They also keep Captain in their house whenever we are gone. It's a great arrangement. Captain LOVES these 2 dogs! They chase each other around the house for hours until they all collapse on separate couches for naps!

Captain is very fortunate because both my husband and myself have offices in our home. Captain has company all day! He sleeps on his leopard-skin pillow on the floor beside my desk while I'm working. He's not very fond of our guinea pig, Blitzen, but has learned not to go near him when we have the guinea pig out of the cage (even though Captain would very much like to have Blitzen for lunch!) He is a sweet dog and a has filled a void for our family since the death of our 15 year-old long-haired dachshund, Kate a year ago.

Thank you CTDR for this wonderful service. We encourage everyone we know who is looking for a dog to go to your web site. You are truly a blessing in the lives of these homeless dogs.

Jerry, Kim Austin and Alexa Conner
