UPDATE: Please meet Duke! Not only is he a devastatingly handsome, young, playful, obedient, and vibrant Dachshund, but this rare piebald is also the definition of a true survivor! When Duke was offered to CTDR as a rescue, we were instantly smitten, and equally committed! He had “gone down in the back,” and was completely unable to use his rear legs. He could only drag them behind him, which was not only heartbreaking, but difficult to witness. We followed the advice of CTDR to administer his multiple medications, keep him on strict, 100% crate rest, and then professional physical rehabilitation and therapy.  Duke took it all “ in stride!” Fast forward three months, and Duke is not only walking, but running, playing, and sprinting! He has complete use of his back legs and is the sweetest and most playful dog in the world! No one would ever know that he was once “down.” He accomplished that with outright “Dachshund Determination!” This is the same determination that Duke has to find his furever home. We would adopt him ourselves if we did not have three other dogs, which is a bit much! Duke loves his foster brothers and plays with his sister “Bella” for as long as she will let him, otherwise he is content to entertain himself for hours with a toy. If Duke hears the squeak of a toy, he is off to the races, begging for it to be tossed, so that he can chase it down, and bring it back to repeat the fun!  Duke adores his people, wants to snuggle with them, and is at his happiest when next to them on the sofa… unless he hears a squeak! If you are wanting the perfect example of what makes the Dachshund breed so special, then look no further… Duke is the one for you! This Duke will make you feel  like royalty!

Hi everyone, it's me Duke.  Boy do I have some good news for you all.  When I came to CTDR I could not walk at all and my legs were like pretzels.  My fosters took me to the vet and were told I did not have this thing called Deep Pain, ( not sure what that is) but the vet put me on a regimen of medicine and I was put on very strict crate rest.  My fosters have followed it to a T.  They noticed that I was trying very hard to use my legs and I even was sneaking in a stand or two in the crate, and then they would take me out and I started standing more and then I started showing off a little and would walk.  Every day it seemed my walking was improving.  Well, TODAY, I saw a new doctor because I am going to start some laser therapy, acupuncture and water therapy and this Doctor was so happy because my neuro functions have come back,  my urinary functions have come back and BEST NEWS OF ALL, I HAVE DEEP PAIN BACK.  The new doctor said I am awesome and that I do not need back surgery.  My foster parents have worked so hard with me and keeping me safe and happy but due to all of their hard work and determination, we got this awesome news.  I am going to work so very hard in rehab as the doctor said I AM WALKING, not just spinal walking, but WALKING.  I want to make fosters parents so proud of me.  Watch for more updates on me next week.  Thank you Foster Mom and Dad!

WOW!   Can you say handsome boy!   Duke is a new arrival to CTDR.  Duke had gone down in his back and his owner could no longer care for him.  The owners' daughter then took him but due to being an active military family, they realized they could not give Duke the care he needs and they reached out to CTDR for help.  We did not hesitate a second to say yes, we would take him and provide for him.  Duke is currently in a foster home where he is on very strict crate rest and on a medication regimen that hopefully will help him.  If not, he will need to go through surgery to help him with his back issue.  Please follow the story on Duke and watch the website for more update on his progress.
