Adoption Process

CTDR finds homes for our dachshunds through adoption events, postings on this website, our Petfinder page, and through our network of satisfied adopters.

About CTDR Dogs

All dogs that come through Central Texas Dachshund Rescue have been fully vetted before adoption. This includes a health exam by a veterinarian, age-appropriate vaccinations, a microchip, and a heartworm test and preventative. All dogs four months of age or older are spayed or neutered. Dogs under four months are adopted under the agreement that they will be spayed or neutered at the appropriate time. We also provide dental or surgical treatments as necessary.

Due to increasing veterinary care costs, the following adoption fees are effective January 1, 2025:

Puppies $350
Dogs (1–9 years) $300
Seniors (10+ years) $200
Senior to Senior
(Age 65+ adopting a dog age 12+)
$75
Bonded Pair $400

How the Process Works

  1. View our list of available CTDR dogs.
  2. Complete an adoption application and list the names of all the dogs you’re interested in. If you don’t currently see a dog that matches your family, tell us what you’re looking for — we have new dogs weekly and will contact you if one fits. Please include your current veterinarian and landlord (if applicable); we’ll contact them as part of your application review.
  3. After receiving your application, we’ll contact you to discuss what you’re looking for. We aim to respond within 3–7 days — please be patient, as all of us are volunteers with full-time jobs.
  4. Once vet and reference checks are complete, we’ll schedule a home visit. Someone from CTDR will meet your family (and any current pets). The full process can take up to 30 days.
