Blondie is a beautiful, young little girl. She appears to be a two toned blonde colored wire haired Dachshund. Her current weight is 13.8 pounds but she is probably about 2 pounds underweight. Her age is estimated between about 2-4 years old. She has deep brown, expressive eyes, and she has a little under bite, which gives her face some beautiful character! We don't know too much about her past, other then someone deserted her at the San Antonio City Animal Control Shelter parking lot, after tying her to a lamp post on a hot afternoon. She was covered in fleas and has lost considerable hair from Flea Dermatitis. The remaining hair is a beautiful light golden color with even lighter blonde highlights. Her skin is in kind of rough shape right now, due to the fleas and all the scratching. Now that the fleas are all gone, it just needs a little TLC and some good, nutritious food, and the skin should clear up quickly and the hair to grow back. She has just been spayed and has a healing incision. She has given birth to at least one litter of puppies in the past. Blondie is a quiet girl, that loves attention and to have her head stroked and her chest and tummy rubbed. She is not demanding of attention and can entertain herself. She has only barked once, to let me know she was trapped in the bathroom! She has not been destructive of anything, and seems to not know what toys are. Her first night here, it was difficult to get her to lay down on anything soft, such as a blanket or bed. I don't think she has had a soft bed before, but does seem to enjoy her blanket and bed now! She has slept quietly beside me all night long without a sound. The first night, she preferred a blanket on the floor, and the next night on the big bed with the other pups! She appears to be housetrained, and will go and sit at the door when she needs to go outside. Blondie tolerates the other dogs in the house, but doesn't play or interact with them. When the other dogs give her too much attention, she growls and shows her teeth, but doesn't snap or bite. She is not food aggressive with either myself or the other dogs and allows me to place my hand in her food bowl, and the other dogs to eat from the same bowl. Blondie walks really well on a leash, without pulling or lunging. Blondie likes to go for walks and will walk quietly by your side! She quietly approaches other people, and allows them to pet her, but ignores other dogs and cats if they leave her alone. She has not been exposed to children yet. Blondie will "sit" on command if offered a treat, and will gently take the treat from your hand, without ripping off your fingers!Blondie is a beautiful little girl with a quiet, gentle personality. With some TLC, time, and some nutritious food, her coat is going to be beautiful as well! Her perfect home, would probably be as an ONLY dog or maybe a house with one other dog. She could live in an apartment or a home with a yard. She would be a great friend for a single person or perhaps an elderly couple. She seems to be a low to medium energy dog, that enjoys walks, but also loves to curl up and cuddle. This little girl, has a great, quiet, peaceful personality, and lots of love to share! She asks for so little in life, a little food, a soft bed, and a gentle, loving hand. Do you have a little room in your life for Blondie?
