Do you remember the old Purina commercial slogan “All you add is love”? If you do, that tells you all you need to know about Nico. Nico craves companionship from people and other dogs.  As long as he has another canine companion, or his owner around, he doesn’t show separation anxiety.  Due to this characteristic, he would not do well in a situation where he was an only dog and his human was gone a lot. Keeping that in mind, he is a very sweet and loving little guy. He wakes up happy and his first action of the day is to come to you for love and pets.  He is always happy to see you come home and will use those longer legs to jump up about two feet in the air to get your attention.  A favorite game to play is for you to “chase” him after he comes in, stomp your foot and he takes off running full speed  back and forth in front of you daring you to try to catch him.  No matter what kind of day you’ve had, Nico will lift your spirits when he greets you.  As far as he is concerned, the sun rises and sets on you. Nico knows what the word “No” means and responds well to correction.  However, gentle is the key here.  Perhaps due to the environment before he came to rescue, he was disciplined harshly.  So, no need to do more than just tell him “No” in a normal tone.  He will stop what he was doing immediately. Nico gets along well with the other dogs in the foster’s home.  When someone brings their dog into the house, Nico is cautious but not aggressive.  This fits with his overall  laid back personality.  Nico will bark at cats and strangers when they are on the other side of the fence.  As with any dog, take it slowly to see how he reacts to the new dog or person.  Nico has never encountered a cat other than with a fence between them so not sure whether he would adapt to a feline. Nico is young and has a lot of love to give to the right person and the right home.  Just remember to add the secret ingredient: love
